This hand-built stoneware vessel by Em Frank explores form, surface and the inherent qualities of clay. Built gradually by hand, the vessel retains subtle irregularities; reflecting the rhythm of making and the responsiveness of the material. A kiln reactive glaze enables variation in tone and texture to emerge through the firing process. Neither purely functional nor purely sculptural, the vessel sits somewhere in between; an object to live with, to observe, and to return to over time. Quiet, considered and one of a kind.

    The Designer /

    Em Frank

Em Frank works across ceramics, sculpture and mixed media. Her practice is driven by material intrigue and a long-standing preoccupation with discarded and repurposed objects. A decade of working with First Nations art centres has shaped her approach to making, deepening her interest in collaborative processes and creative exchange.

Em is drawn to artmaking for its generative and disruptive possibilities, where ideas and materials can meet in expansive ways. She is particularly interested in the conversations that happen between objects. The way materials carry histories, gestures, and modes of being in the world, and how these relationships can be activated through making and assemblage.
